Car Insurance HUMMER (Car Insurance). How to shift in an automatic car?

How to shift in an automatic car? I just drove a 2011 dodge Charger, and when you put it in drive, you can upshift and downshift by moving the shifter left and right. When do you upshift, and when do you downshift? I've never driven a manual so I'm not really familiar with this.

When the revs grow higher, shift up. When you slow down, drop a gear. For normal everyday driving, an upshift at around 2000 is normal. The manual selection is for drivers who want more control, they can stay in a lower gear and get better acceleration. It will help in giving you an answer when you make up your mind if the car is an automatic or manual shift. You have stated both. The Left and right is just your overdrive.. stay in + (overdrive) on freeway - on streets.. it is just to help you save money on gas.. put it in D and stop it will yah You only take control of the cars shifting if you want a more aggressive driving. For example, red lining every gear to get the fastest acceleration out of the vehicle. Also down shifting before a turn to keep the engine in the power band so you can accelerate out of the turn faster.

What is (1) 15" or 12" subwoofer that will give me big SPL in a ported setup? I currently have 2 12" RE Audio SRX subs that are getting 300 w RMS each from a Polk amp in a dual Atrend ported box. I am looking to replace those subs with just (1) 15" or 12" that will be LOUDER than my current setup! I am trying to stay under $400 on the sub. I was looking at the Kicker L5, L7, Memphis MOJO, JL W6 and the FI BL. What sub should I get and what is a good ported box that hits the low notes REALLY HARD? I am open to suggestions. Drove up one way street the wrong way? I feel so f*cking stupid! I am so mad at myself. Today I accidentally drove the wrong way on a one way street. I have no clue what I was thinking. There were cars driving directly at me. I panicked and turned off at a signal, putting me in the correct direction, and made it home safely. Nothing happened. What breaks my heart is that my younger sister and younger brother were in the car with me. I feel so horrible. Should I try my best to not think about it and just move on and use this experience as being more careful on the road? Also have any of you made this mistake? HUMMER . How to Remove & Replace Brake Rotors on a Lincoln Town Car

Lincoln Town Cars have had a history of warping rotors. There was a technical service bulletin out about applying the correct torque to the lug nuts and how to do it. Needless to say, the original rotors of the vehicles lasted the longest, but when they had to be replaced, the problems started. The higher quality the rotor, the less often you're going to have to replace them, but the more you're going to pay for them at the parts store. With some tools in the garage and a little time invested, you can perform this repair in your own driveway and save money on labor charges at the local repair shop.
Difficulty:Moderately Challenging
Instructions Things You'll Need
Floor jack Jack stand Wheel chock 1/2-inch drive breaking bar Complete 1/2-inch drive socket set 1/2-inch drive ratchet Large straight-edged screwdriver Hammer Channel locks or pliers C-clamp Light-grade sandpaper Bungee cord Brake clean spray Shop rag(s) 1/2-inch drive adjustable torque wrench

Step by Step :
1
Park the Lincoln Town Car on a flat, level paved or concrete surface. Apply the parking brake. Press the trunk release button.
2
Place a wheel chock behind one of the rear wheels. Open the trunk and turn off the air ride button, located on the left side near the trunk hinge on the sidewall.
3
Break the lug nuts loose with the breaking bar and socket on the left front tire. Just crack them loose.
4
Lift the left front quarter of the Lincoln Town Car with the floor jack, and place a jack stand under the frame just behind the left front tire.
5
Remove the lug nuts and wheel from the left front tire.
6
Remove the caliper bolts using a ratchet and socket.
7
Pry off the caliper with the straight-edged screwdriver and secure it to the coil spring with the bungee cord.
8
Remove the pads from the caliper anchor. Pry them out with the screwdriver if you need to, but note how they are placed in the anchor so you can replace them in the exact same manner when it comes time to.
9
Remove the caliper anchor bolts. You may have to break them loose with the breaking bar and socket, but switch over to the ratchet once they're broken free to speed things up.

Step by Step :
10
Remove the rotor. Look on the hub facing of the rotor. There may be some retainer washers that hold the rotor secure to the hub; if so, you'll need to pry them forward with the screwdriver and pull them off with channel locks or pliers. The only purpose of these retainer washers is to hold the rotor secure to the hub while reinstalling the caliper anchor and caliper. Do not worry if you ruin these or if they're not even on the rotor. You don't really need them. If the rotor does not move after you've removed the retaining washers, you may need to shock it from the hub. Do so by striking the rotor fin with a hammer with force to break it free from the rust to the hub. You may have to hit it several times; try hitting from behind more than in front, but be careful not to inflict damage to the fender or injure yourself.

Step by Step :
11
Sand down the facing and edges of the hub with a light-grade sandpaper. Take some time and clean the hub from rust and corrosion as well as you can.

Step by Step :
12
Spray the new rotor with brake clean spray very thoroughly. New rotors have an oil-based coating on them to prevent them from rusting due to condensation in the air. This oil coating must be cleaned off or it will create braking problems in the future. Be liberal with the brake clean on both sides of the rotor, and wipe it dry with a shop rag.

Step by Step :
13
Replace the caliper anchor and pads. Tighten the caliper anchor bolts tightly with the ratchet and switch to the breaking bar to get another half turn out of them.

Step by Step :
14
Squeeze the piston of the caliper in with the C-clamp all the way. Replace it over the anchor, pads and rotor. Replace and tighten the caliper bolts.

Step by Step :
15
Replace the tire and lug nuts. Tighten the lug nuts as tight as you can get them with the ratchet and socket, then lower the Town Car and use the adjustable torque wrench set at 100 foot-pounds, but tighten the lug nuts in an alternate pattern. In other words, tighten each lug nut in the opposite position from the one tightened first until all the lug nuts are tightened to 100 foot-pounds.

Step by Step :
16
Repeat the process for the right side.

Step by Step :
17
Pump the food pedal when you're done to restore hydraulic pressure to the caliper pistons. Failure to perform this task can result in hazardous and dangerous results. Four or five pumps or until the brake pedal feels normal should suffice. Release the hood latch and trunk latch again if you closed it before. Check and adjust the brake fluid level in the master cylinder, and turn the air ride button back to the on position in the trunk. Remove the wheel chock.

Step by Step :
18
Release the parking brake and test-drive.

HUMMER . How to Replace the Brake Rotors on a Subaru Forester

You were told by your mechanic that your rotors are rust-pitted or in poor shape and cannot be turned on a lathe. The good news is that the rotors aren't too expensive. The bad news is, he's charging you an hour's labor per side to install them. You have some tools at home and you realize that 2 hours of labor charges at your mechanic's rates are much more attractive in your wallet than in his. Stop at the local parts store on your way home, and on your next day off, consider tackling the project yourself. It's not as hard as you think.
Difficulty:Moderate
Instructions Things You'll Need
Floor jack Jack stand Wheel chock 1/2-inch drive breaking bar 1/2-drive ratchet 1/2-inch drive metric socket set Large straight edge screwdriver Hammer C-clamp Brake clean spray Shop rag 1/2-inch drive adjustable torque wrench

Step by Step :
1
Park the Forester on a level paved or concrete surface. Apply the parking brake. Place the wheel chock behind one rear wheel.
2
Break the lug nuts loose on the left front tire. Lift the left front quarter with the floor jack and place the jack stand in a secure and safe location to support the vehicle.
3
Remove the lug nuts and the wheel.
4
Locate the two caliper bolts on the inside of the caliper and remove them with the ratchet and socket. Pry the caliper off the bridge using a large straight-edged screwdriver or leverage. Support the caliper on the upper control arm. Do not let it dangle by its brake hose.
5
Remove the pads from the bridge, but pay attention to how they are positioned in the bridge so you can replace them in the exact same way (unless you're replacing the pads as well). Use the screwdriver to assist you in prying the pads from the caliper bridge.
6
Locate the caliper bridge bolts on the back side of the wheel hub and remove them with the 1/2-inch breaking bar and socket. You can switch over to the ratchet when the bolts are loose, but they'll be very tight at first so the breaking bar will break them loose easily.
7
Remove the rotors. This may require you to shock them off the hub using a hammer and striking them on the fins repeatedly.
8
Spray the new rotors with brake clean spray to clean off the rust-preventive coating, and wipe them dry with a shop rag.
9
Install the new rotors on the hub.

Step by Step :
10
Replace the bridge and tighten very tightly with the ratchet and again a half turn with the breaking bar.

Step by Step :
11
Replace the pads in the bridge. If you're replacing with new pads, place a small amount of the supplied silicone lubricant to the contact points on the bridge.

Step by Step :
12
Squeeze the piston of the caliper all the way in as far as it will go with a C-clamp.

Step by Step :
13
Place the caliper over the rotor and caliper bridge, replace the caliper bolts, and tighten.

Step by Step :
14
Replace the tire and lug nuts. Tighten the lug nuts flush to the hub and lower the vehicle. Re-tighten the lug nuts using the 1/2-inch drive torque wrench and a socket (65 to 80 foot-pounds).

Step by Step :
15
Repeat the procedure for the right side.

Step by Step :
16
Pump the foot brake pedal to restore the hydraulic pressure back into the caliper pistons. Do not forget this step as you will have no braking response until the pistons are hydraulically restored. Four of five pumps of the foot brake should restore the pistons, but pump until the brake pedal feels normal. Release the hood latch and check and adjust the brake fluid in the master cylinder if you need to.

Step by Step :
17
Remove the wheel chock and test drive the car in a safe area.

On conventional diesels, the air comes in through an air cleaner that's quite similar to those in ordinary vehicles. However, turbochargers have been developed that ram greater volumes of air into the cylinders and may provide greater power and fuel economy under optimum conditions. A turbocharger can increase the power on a diesel vehicle by 50 percent while lowering its fuel consumption by 20 to 25 percent! (See "Turbocharging" in Chapter 6 for details.) 6. As you've read, turning the key started the glow plugs warming up the air in the cylinders. On many engines, the glow plugs are located right in the combustion chambers of the cylinders. On others, they have been placed in little precombustion chambers (refer to Figure 7-2), which the glow plugs can heat more quickly and easily. 7. From here, combustion spreads from the smaller amount of fuel that's placed under pressure in the precombustion chamber to the fuel and air in the combustion chamber itself. Now take a closer look at each step of the power cycle that converts all this 349 Car Insurance 2001 volvo s60 24tsedan4d 498352

into power to drive the vehicle. The diesel four-stroke pouter cycle Although some diesel engines operate with two-stroke power cycles, chances are that the vehicles you'll encounter use a four-stroke power cycle, which is comparable to the power cycle of a gasoline engine (see Chapter 6). The following explains how the diesel's four-stroke power cycle works: I f Stroke 1 — Intake stroke (see Figure 7-7): The piston descends, the intake valve opens, and air is drawn into the cylinder. . Stroke 2 — Compression stroke (see Figure 7-8): The intake and exhaust valves are closed as the piston moves upward and places the air under extreme pressure. As the pressure increases, the air heats up to the flash point (the point at which it causes the fuel to undergo sponta neous combustion). Just before that point is reached, fuel injectors spray fuel into the combustion chambers at the precise instant when ignition is to take place. Figure 7-8: Compression stroke. Stroke 3 — Power stroke (see Figure 7-9): With intake and exhaust valves closed, the fuel ignites, and combustion forces the piston down. This driving power is transmitted through the transmission and the rest of the drive train to the wheels, which causes the vehicle to move.

Figure 7-10: Exhaust stroke. Diesel fuel Diesel engines run on diesel fuel, which is more efficient than gasoline because it contains 10 percent more energy per gallon than gasoline does. It is also safer than gasoline because its vapors don't explode or ignite as easily as gasoline does. Diesel fuel (sometimes called diesel oil) comes in two grades: Diesel #1 and Diesel #2 (or 1-D and 2-D). Just as gasoline is rated by its octane, diesel fuel is rated by its cetane, which indicates how easy it is to ignite and how fast it will burn. (The higher the cetane number, the more volatile the fuel.) Most diesel vehicles use fuel with a rating of 40 to 55. Most diesel automakers specify Diesel #2 for normal driving conditions. Truckers use Diesel #2 to carry heavy loads for long distances at sustained speeds because it's less volatile than #1 and provides greater fuel economy.

Diesel fuel is also measured by its viscosity, which has to do with its thickness and ability to flow. Like any oil, diesel fuel gets thicker and cloudier at lower temperatures. Under extreme conditions, this fuel can become a gel and refuse to flow at all. Diesel #1 flows more easily than Diesel #2, so it's more efficient at lower temperatures. The two types of oil can be blended, and most service stations offer diesel fuel blended for local weather conditions. If you plan to drive in very cold weather, choose diesel fuel rated at least 10 degrees lower than the coldest temperatures you expect to encounter. Consult your owner's manual for specifics. Diesel fuel emissions have been found to be extremely toxic to humans and other living things. Until safer forms of this fuel are developed, be careful not to inhale the fumes while you're pumping it into your fuel tank. Chapter 7: Diesels and Alternatively Powered Vehicles 1 A 1 The good news is that safer diesel fuels are being developed. The top contender, Fischer-Tropsch, is a liquefied natural gas that contains no sulfur and can be used in conventional diesel engines. With the proper converter, it has the potential to be as clean as natural gas. This fuel would be very expensive to create and market, so if you really love diesel engines, it would be wise to lobby for government subsidies and incentives to make this fuel (or compara-. ble diesel fuels) affordable. For more about this topic, see "Designer diesel," later in this chapter. The diesel fuel sold at truck stops is often cheaper than at service stations, and the fuel is fresher, too. Instead of just using the battery to enable the starter to crank the engine, as gasoline-powered engines do, a diesel must have sufficient power to enable the glow plugs to warm the combustion chambers and then must build up enough heat and compression in the cylinders to ignite the fuel. For this reason, diesels must possess considerably more battery capacity than conventional vehicles. Some diesels come equipped with two batteries, while others feature a single oversized battery, which may be more than 50 percent bigger than one found on a conventional car.
